Growing up in the midwest during the 1980's had a profound impact on J.D. Hicks at an early age. Bands like Boston, America, Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen and storytellers like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and Cat Stevens inspired his tastes and sensibilities as he honed musical skills . Over the years he's taken on the roles of frontman, guitarist, keyboardist and drummer in various bands, all of which focused on straightforward rock n' roll. At the urging of those in his inner circle, J. D. eventually found his footing in songwriting and amassed a catalog that caught the attention of the recording community. His debut LP, A Subtle Glow, features a diverse and uniquely polished songlist that showcases his affinity for rock music which mixes elements of folk storytelling and hints of country to create a signature sound with broad appeal.
